More Info Regarding File Extension PST
LightWave 3D, a 3D animation and modeling tool from NewTek, assigns the .pst extension to files used for lighting presets. These proprietary files store data used to render lighting and textures in a 3D model. LightWave can export and import these files with no problem, but they can't be used by other software. Errors are rare and generally confined to corrupt data. File association errors can occur if double clicking a LightWave .pst on a Windows based machine with Outlook or Exchange. Changing the file associations is not recommended.
MIDI Studio was a program for sampling and creating multi-track MIDI music. The .pst files this program used were mixer presets that included data for individual filters like reverb, flanger, chorus, EQ, daft, cutoff, etc. The files were not usable outside of the software and could not be opened or edited with other programs. The MIDI Studio software was discontinued when publisher Magix introduced its Music Maker software.
Ulead is a collection of applications recently acquired by Corel, and used for photo and image processing, video editing and production, DVD creation, and other multimedia projects. Ulead assigns the .pst extension to pattern files which are used to enhance various video images. Little is known about these files, how they are used, and errors they are prone to. Assume the file format is proprietary to the Ulead software.
Medbasin is a windows-based program developed by the National Technical University of Athens, used to produce the daily or monthly hydrograph of a river. Each created model requires parameters to be setup which control the various aspects of how the data is interpreted. These parameters are saved in a .pst file. The model's author can chose one of the standard .pst files included with the software or create his own. Parameter file created by other users can be stored and used in a new model as well. The file format is proprietary to the Medbasin software and cannot be used by other products.
The three remaining programs that use the .pst extension are BMail, Lahey Fortran, and Mastercam. No specific information is known about these applications or their file formats. BMail is no longer developed or supported; Fortran is still used as a programming language albeit very rarely; Mastercam is a CNC application for industrial use still developed and supported by CNC Software, Inc.
